When does typecasting HURT an actor, and when does it HELP an actor?

The best example to consider are horror icons Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff. Lugosi, of course, is world-famous for his stage and screen portrayal of Dracula. Ever since performing in Dracula (1931), he became a victim of typecasting and could barely ever find future acting work because barely anyone could see him as Dracula. Conversely, Boris Karloff after gaining HIS fame as the Frankenstein creature had instantly become a typecasted superstar, giving him more work in the horror genre than most other actors could get in their entire careers.

Why does typecasting help some actors, while hurting others?

well im a twin and my sister and i are actresses
naturally we are typecasted as twins and we cant get jobs as seperate people

when we audition for twin things such as a double mint commercial or something like that we almost always get it because of the fact we are twins, typecasting helps in that way

in another way when we audition for stage productions either plays or musicals we always get cast as twins because we are typecasted that way because of this we never get lead roles! typecasting hurts in this way

for us we get jobs for twins!

  • Do you mean plasteline? If so, that's an oil based product, so it won't harden (although there are different hardnesses of plasteline).

If you know how to make moulds, you could do that, and then cast your bird in ceramic or bronze. Mould making is one of those things, though, that are better learned from an experienced sculptor. Undercuts can be tricky, and a good mould often has 3 or more parts (depending on the complexity of the original sculpture).

If you haven't access to the necessary equipment for a ceramic or bronze casting, here's another thought: Why not re-create your bird sculpture in some self-hardening clay? I've never used it, personally, but a friend of mine used some once (thinking she was getting regular clay), and I was truly amazed at how hard the end product was! From there, you could either leave the bird sculpture as is (looking like bisqued clay), or paint it with either oils or acrylics.

    Good luck to you!
